*The Hymn Society is a wonderful, ecumenical, professional community which promotes congregational song of multiple genres in creative, worshipful, scholarly, and life-giving ways.
In light of the ecumenical movement calling for a new feast celebrating God the Creator, The Hymn Society's 2025 song search invited new texts & songs focusing on this theme. I chose to set my new text to the familiar tune, Wayfaring Stranger.
My prayer is that Creating Word offers an expression of praise and gratitude to God for the great gift of creation, space for lament and repentance for the harm done to creation, and a prayer for God to restore all things to wholeness and health.
This song, shared at The Hymn Society's 2025 conference in Detroit, MI, will soon be available in congregational format (at no charge) through Hope Publishing. More information coming!
